After winning a Grammy for the 2006 album "Love Is My Religion", Ziggy Marley has come back in a different style. The new album entitled "Family Time" is for the children. Ziggy who has five children of his own, features one of his daughters, Judah, on one of the tracks as well as a host of appearances by some other well-knowns such as Paul Simon, Toots Hibbert, Jack Johnson and a story read by Jamie Lee Curtis and many other singers.
The album is currently at number one in the Billboard music charts and has been released independantly on the Tuff Gong record label.
So why make reggae for the kids? "I know how important music can be in a child's growth and development, and in a parent's connection with their children," explains Marley, "This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity."
You may still be asking yourself...there is a Grammy for reggae? Although it was a big deal when the first reggae Grammy was issued to Black Uhuru for their "Anthem" album in 1984, the glitz and glamour of it all has since warn off. What does a grammy mean to a reggae musician, you might be wondering? Although he can't say for all reggae musicians, Ziggy had this to say: (this is an old interview, excuse the deep voiced interviewer!)
