Van Gogh's Works come to Taipei for the first time for NT$25 billion (US$776 million)
On December 11th at the National Museum of History, the people of Taipei will have a rare chance to see the last art piece created by Dutch master painter Vincent Van Gogh as well as 98 of Van Gogh's works -- 77 drawings and 21 oil paintings. The museum will host a showing of his last work painted entitled, "Country Road in Provence by Night" also know as "Road with Cypress and Star". This was the artists' last piece of work during his stay in a mental asylum in France.
"The painting represents Van Gogh's view on the universe. People can feel the energy in the painter's life when they appreciate the painting," Evert van Straaten, director of the Netherlands-based Kroller-Muller Museum, said about the piece, which is the museum's crown jewel. The museum, which has the second-largest van Gogh collection in the world, loaned most of 98 van Gogh paintings that will be on display, to the National Museum of History for the exhibition in Taipei. Collecting the works of Van Gogh has not been an easy task since the artists' request was that his works remain in the hands of family and not be let into the hands of others.

The exhibition, titled "Van Gogh: The Flaming Soul, " will run from Dec. 11 to March 28 at the National Museum of History. It is probably the most highly ensured exhibit the museum has hosted claims director Huang Yung-chuan with insurance running to the amount of NT$25 billion (US$776 million).
